The ever-decreasing housing stock has made local continuum’s look for answers to place those experiencing homelessness into permanent housing solutions. In places like Los Angeles, there is a lack of over 500,000 affordable housing units and more people will fall into the homeless services system than exit it. In the past there have been conversations regarding lack of PSH and Affordable units, which is still true today, there is also a lack of studios and 1-bedroom units. To try and solve this concern, LA Family Housing has created a creative way to address the challenging housing market, shared housing. LA Family Housing has developed a website that matches participants to one another based off answers from a personality questionnaire. By utilizing a shared housing model, 2,3-, and 4-bedroom units can be used to provide permanent housing solutions for multiple households.
